I'm going to tell a story. After the story, there's just one question and the answer to this question will tell you out of five things, which you value most and least.
There was a river with a bridge across it. One one side of the river lived a husband and wife. Now, the husband was a business man and he was going into town for the weekend. His wife begged him to take her along. The wife knew that if she were to stay at home while her husband was gone, she would be unfaithful. The husband insisted that she stay behind though and just as soon as he left, the wife crossed the bridge to her lover's house.
The wife stayed there all weekend and on the day of her husband's return, she set out across the bridge to go home but there was an assassen at the far end with a knife in hand, waiting to kill her. The wife then went to the boatman and asked for passage across the river. The boatman told the wife that passage would cost fifty cents but she'd brought no money with her. the wife then went to her lover to ask for fifty cents but he turned her away, not giving her a cent. The wife returned to the boatman but still, he wouldn't grant her passage. In a desprit moment of fear, the wife ran head long across the bridge to be stabbed to death by the assassen.
...
question: There are five characters, The wife, husband, boatman, lover, and assassen. Who's fault was it that the wife died? From most responsable to least responsable, one through five, list the characters names. It's very important that you list most to least, because each character represents a value. In the next post, I'll tell what each character represents so, no cheating!

Got your list ready, one through five, most responsable for the wife's death to least responsable? This is what each character means, as you may have guessed, the first character is your strongest value and the last character is your least cherished value.
The lover represents sex
the husband represents love
the wife represents fun
the boatman represents magic
the assassen represents money.
There you go.

Okay, Here's my guesses for no good reason but I want to find out who is responsible.

1. wife because she brought the whole thing on herself.
2. assassen because he actually did the deed.
3. husband because he didn't take her with him.
4. boatman because he wouldn't take her across.
5. lover because he didn't give her the money.

Actually, I woulda killed her too if I had been there.

Cala, if I took this seriously and logically it's rubbish. I'll give you my list why, and then how it's wrong. lol

1 Wife, because she made the choices, not only to cheat on her husband, but to try and pass the assassin when it would have been better to stay where she was and deal with the consequences of her husband finding out. She may have lost him, but she'd still be alive.

2 The assassin, because without him she wouldn't have been killed.

3 The lover, because if he cared enough, he'd have given her the money to pay the boatman to save her life. it didn't say he had no money just that he wouldn't give her any.

4 The boatman, he could see she couldn't cross the bridge safely yet still refused to take her, so he is in a way responsible.

5 The husband, he as far as we know didn't know his wife was unfaithful, and so may have had valid reasons to do with his work why he left her home. if we make him responsible we're saying that a woman who doesn't get what she asks for has a right to be unfaithful.

ok, so for me that makes fun the most important value to me, and love the least important. Rubbish. The most important things for me are honesty and love. so yeah, it really works, but I'd also like to question why the different people were given the values they were. How often does a man represent love in anything? normally a woman is considered the more loving, so yeah, The boatman was charging for the trip across the river, so you'd think he might have been representative of money. so while it was fun, it was rubbish. lol

well, I wrote what value each character expresses, so your number 1 is your most strongest value and number 5 is your least. For example, Fun is number one for Kevin (blackbird) and love is number 5

I'm not saying this is accurate, I just liked it when I first came across it.

It's not accurate, but it was a lot of fun.

Yes, I think I'd have to agree that this is an interesting challenge but completely useless in terms of self-evaluation. Well, at least it is in so much as the answers that it provides. On the other hand, while you might not agree with the results that it throws up, and for the record I didn't, it does at least make you sit back and give such matters some consideration so, more useful perhaps than it would first seem.

Good stuff Cala.
